Janene Roberson, 52, suffered from multiple sclerosis and lived at the Meadowbrook Care Center. Roberson was taken to an emergency room where testing revealed evidence of liver damage, dehydration and an infection.
Roberson was diagnosed as having a urinary tract infection of the kidney and severe sepsis. Despite undergoing aggressive treatment, she died nine days later. She was survived by her sister, Margaret.
Roberson’s estate sued Meadowbrook Healthcare LLC, alleging negligence and violation of the state’s Nursing Home Residents Bill of Rights. The estate asserted that the nursing home facility was chronically understaffed and provided substandard care.
After a trial, the jury signed a verdict for approximately $17.67 million.
The attorneys successfully handling this tragic case were Nicholas A. DiCello and Dustin B. Herman.
