{"id":967,"date":"2013-06-12T10:00:53","date_gmt":"2013-06-12T16:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chicagomedicalmalpracticeattorney-blog.com\/?p=967"},"modified":"2016-08-30T16:23:24","modified_gmt":"2016-08-30T21:23:24","slug":"illinois-appellate-court-reverses-medical-malpractice-defense-verdict-for-erroneous-rulings-regarding-the-scope-of-cross-examination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.robertkreisman.com\/medical-malpractice-lawyer\/illinois-appellate-court-reverses-medical-malpractice-defense-verdict-for-erroneous-rulings-regarding-the-scope-of-cross-examination\/","title":{"rendered":"Illinois Appellate Court Reverses Medical Malpractice Defense Verdict for Erroneous Rulings Regarding the Scope of Cross-Examination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--[if gte mso 9]&gt;--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Illinois Appellate Court for the Fourth District reversed a jury\u2019s verdict for defendants, which included <a href=\"http:\/\/www.osfhealthcare.org\/\">OSF Healthcare System<\/a>, in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcleancountyil.gov\/index.aspx?nid=80\">Circuit Court of McLean County<\/a>.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>The case centered around an injury and subsequent death of a 3-year-old boy, Christian Rivera, in 2003.<span>\u00a0<\/span>The jury trial was held in July 2011.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">During the trial, the family of Christian offered its expert witness, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthgrades.com\/physician\/dr-finley-brown-2jkqk\">Dr. Finley Brown<\/a>, to testify as a medical expert in family practice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The defendants were allowed by the trial judge to cross-examine Dr. Brown for the issue related to his annual earnings as an expert witness for an 8-year period.<span>\u00a0<\/span>Plaintiff\u2019s counsel had argued against the broad timeframe, but the trial judge denied plaintiff\u2019s motion to limit the timeframe.
