{"id":2958,"date":"2016-09-20T10:00:32","date_gmt":"2016-09-20T15:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.robertkreisman.com\/medical-malpractice-lawyer\/?p=2958"},"modified":"2019-10-17T06:12:30","modified_gmt":"2019-10-17T11:12:30","slug":"1-million-settlement-reached-death-juvenile-detention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.robertkreisman.com\/medical-malpractice-lawyer\/1-million-settlement-reached-death-juvenile-detention\/","title":{"rendered":"$1 Million in Settlement Reached for Death of Juvenile While in Detention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 16-year-old girl was incarcerated at a county juvenile detention center.She had a history of chronic depression and other mental health issues, was noted to be irritable and at risk for self-injurious behavior and suicide.<\/p>\n<p>During her approximately two-month stay, this young woman was placed on suicide watch many times.\u00a0Medications included Abilify, which was prescribed to help with her mood and anxiety.<\/p>\n<p>This detainee experienced chest pains and increased anxiety.\u00a0She asked the probation officer if she could see a mental health expert.\u00a0The next day she complained to a physician that the Abilify was not working and that she was experiencing panic attacks.\u00a0The doctor referred the young woman to a psychiatrist.\u00a0Several hours later however, the woman barricaded herself in her room and hanged herself with a bedsheet.\u00a0She is survived by her parents.<\/p>\n<div class=\"read_more_link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.robertkreisman.com\/medical-malpractice-lawyer\/1-million-settlement-reached-death-juvenile-detention\/\"  title=\"Continue Reading $1 Million in Settlement Reached for Death of Juvenile While in Detention\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 16-year-old girl was incarcerated at a county juvenile detention center.She had a history of chronic depression and other mental health issues, was noted to be irritable and at risk for self-injurious behavior and suicide.
