{"id":1441,"date":"2014-04-11T10:00:30","date_gmt":"2014-04-11T16:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chicagomedicalmalpracticeattorney-blog.com\/?p=1441"},"modified":"2014-04-06T11:00:00","modified_gmt":"2014-04-06T17:00:00","slug":"illinois-jury-enters-1-million-verdict-wrongful-death-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.robertkreisman.com\/medical-malpractice-lawyer\/illinois-jury-enters-1-million-verdict-wrongful-death-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Illinois Jury Enters $1 Million Verdict in Wrongful Death Case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--[if gte mso 9]&gt;--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">An 11-year-old lawsuit finally came to an end in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.co.st-clair.il.us\/Pages\/default.aspx\">St. Clair County, Ill.<\/a>, when the jury entered a $1 million verdict for the medical malpractice-wrongful death of 71-year-old Margaret Janet Brown.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>The case stemmed from \u00a0a 2002 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nlm.nih.gov\/medlineplus\/coronaryarterybypasssurgery.html\">coronary artery bypass surgery <\/a>that failed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In this case, the wrongful death-medical malpractice lawsuit was filed against a Bellville, Ill., anesthesiologist.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>The doctor named as a defendant was Daniel P. Gillen of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stclair.org\/70\/services\">St. Clair Hospital Anesthesia<\/a>.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.steliz.org\/\">St. Elizabeth\u2019s Hospital<\/a> was also named as a defendant in the case, which was filed in 2003.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The lawsuit alleged negligence causing the death of Brown.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>According to the complaint, Dr. Gillen chose not to first obtain a consent to use a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nlm.nih.gov\/medlineplus\/ency\/article\/003870.htm\">Swan-Ganz catheter <\/a>during the coronary artery bypass surgery.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>The Swan-Ganz catheter is used in surgery to measure a patient\u2019s blood flow output.
