{"id":1428,"date":"2014-03-31T10:00:48","date_gmt":"2014-03-31T16:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chicagomedicalmalpracticeattorney-blog.com\/?p=1428"},"modified":"2019-11-07T05:33:50","modified_gmt":"2019-11-07T11:33:50","slug":"medical-malpractice-jury-verdict-doctors-case-patient-died-hours-cardiac-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.robertkreisman.com\/medical-malpractice-lawyer\/medical-malpractice-jury-verdict-doctors-case-patient-died-hours-cardiac-surgery\/","title":{"rendered":"Medical Malpractice Jury Verdict for Doctors In Case Where Patient Died Hours After Cardiac Surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--[if gte mso 9]&gt;--><\/p>\n<p><!--[if gte mso 9]&gt;--><\/p>\n<p><!--[if gte mso 10]&gt;--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Ronald Cobb underwent surgery to insert an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.advocatehealth.com\/luth\/\">Advocate Lutheran General Hospital <\/a>in Park Ridge, Ill.<span>\u00a0 When the procedure was completed on Feb. 3, 2009, <\/span>Cobb was\u00a0 51.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Just two hours after the surgery, Cobb suffered a myocardial infarction in the recovery room and passed away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">His family brought a lawsuit alleging that the defendant doctors were negligent in that they withheld his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drugs.com\/plavix.html\">Plavix <\/a>medication and chose not to perform an angiogram before this surgery.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>It was claimed that the failure to do the angiogram resulted in simultaneous stent thrombosis in two coronary arteries.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The defendants maintained that discontinuation of Plavix was appropriate under the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association guidelines.
