{"id":1385,"date":"2014-02-28T10:00:47","date_gmt":"2014-02-28T16:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chicagomedicalmalpracticeattorney-blog.com\/?p=1385"},"modified":"2014-02-22T21:36:39","modified_gmt":"2014-02-23T03:36:39","slug":"2-5-million-settlement-doctors-failure-follow-signs-symptoms-lung-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.robertkreisman.com\/medical-malpractice-lawyer\/2-5-million-settlement-doctors-failure-follow-signs-symptoms-lung-cancer\/","title":{"rendered":"$2.5 Million Settlement for Doctor\u2019s Failure to Follow Up on Signs and Symptoms of Lung Cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--[if gte mso 9]&gt;--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A confidential settlement was reached wherein a 63-year-old woman\u2019s misdiagnosed lung cancer led to her untimely death.<span>\u00a0The woman, identified only as\u00a0<\/span>Doe, underwent a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/a-to-z-guides\/computed-tomography-ct-scan-of-the-body\">CT scan <\/a>while she was hospitalized.<span>\u00a0<\/span>This showed a lung lesion that the interpreting radiologist reported as possible cancer.<span>\u00a0<\/span>A hospitalist reported these findings to Doe\u2019s primary care physician.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The primary care physician referred Doe to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthcommunities.com\/copd\/what-is-pulmonary-specialist.shtml\">pulmonologist <\/a>but did not tell her that cancer was suspected.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>The hospital sent Doe\u2019s CT scan to the pulmonologist, who reported to the primary care physician that part of the scan was missing.<span>\u00a0<\/span>The primary care physician allegedly said that he would provide the missing film.<span>\u00a0<\/span>However, there was no followup.<span>\u00a0<\/span>The pulmonologist also chose not tell Doe that cancer was suspected when the two subsequently met.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Five years later, Doe developed shortness of breath and other ominous symptoms.<span>\u00a0<\/span>Doe was diagnosed with having Stage IV lung cancer;
