The case they were waiting on from the Supreme Court was <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/15pdf\/14-915_1bn2.pdf\">Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association<\/a><\/em>. Because of the death of Supreme Court Associate Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antonin_Scalia\">Antonin G. Scalia<\/a>, there was 4-4 split on the issue of whether mandatory payment of union fees for nonmember public workers is a First Amendment violation.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the spit decision, \u00a0the 9<sup>th<\/sup> U.S. Court of Appeals ruling in <em>Friedrichs<\/em> stands, but does not create a national precedent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur case is in a strong position to be the next case on this topic that the Supreme Court takes up,\u201d said attorney Jacob H.
