In fact, before 2011, Wisconsin granted broad protections and privileges to public-sector unions. This all changed when the Wisconsin legislature passed a new budget bill known as <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2011_Wisconsin_Act_10\">Act 10.<\/a> This act reduced state and municipal employers\u2019 collective-bargaining obligations to non-public safety employees in the public sector.<\/p>\n<p>In a lawsuit brought by two public employee unions and an individual union member, the defendants argued that the changes by the Wisconsin legislature infringed on their <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/First_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution\">First Amendment<\/a> petition and association rights, and that Act 10 denied the union members equal protection under the law.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. District Court granted the state\u2019s motion for judgment on the pleadings and the unions, the plaintiffs, brought this appeal.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.robertkreisman.com\/injury-lawyer\/u-s-court-appeals-rules-first-amendment-require-state-keep-collective-bargaining-rights-public-employee-unions\/#more-3715\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wisconsin has a long history of protecting private and public labor unions.
