{"id":1549,"date":"2013-12-05T10:00:48","date_gmt":"2013-12-05T16:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/injury.robertkreisman.com\/?p=1549"},"modified":"2013-12-05T07:28:41","modified_gmt":"2013-12-05T13:28:41","slug":"illinois-general-assembly-amends-vehicle-code-regarding-driving-with-hand-held-wireless-telephones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.robertkreisman.com\/injury-lawyer\/illinois-general-assembly-amends-vehicle-code-regarding-driving-with-hand-held-wireless-telephones\/","title":{"rendered":"Illinois General Assembly Amends Vehicle Code Regarding Driving with Hand-Held Wireless Telephones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--[if gte mso 9]&gt;--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Illinois has adopted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=1247&amp;GAID=12&amp;DocTypeID=HB&amp;SessionID=85&amp;GA=98\">House Bill 1247<\/a>, which puts an end to the uncertainty as to whether drivers around the state can use hand-held wireless telephones while driving.<span>\u00a0Under the bill, which was signed into law by <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.illinois.gov\/gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Gov. Pat Quinn<\/a><\/span>, a person may not operate a vehicle on a roadway while using an electronic communication device. The law was passed to put to an end to the confusion from town, municipality to city as to what the law is relating to hand-held devices throughout Illinois.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Violation of this section is an offense against traffic regulations, which would result in a maximum fine of $75 for the first offense, $100 for the second offense, $125 for the third offense and $150 for the fourth offense.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The law does spell out some exceptions for law enforcement officers or persons operating emergency vehicles.<span>\u00a0<\/span>The new law applies directly to those using wireless telephones.<span>\u00a0<\/span>The act does cover portable or mobile computers and hand-held personal digital assistant devices.<\/p>\n<div class=\"read_more_link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.robertkreisman.com\/injury-lawyer\/illinois-general-assembly-amends-vehicle-code-regarding-driving-with-hand-held-wireless-telephones\/\"  title=\"Continue Reading Illinois General Assembly Amends Vehicle Code Regarding Driving with Hand-Held Wireless Telephones\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Illinois has adopted House Bill 1247, which puts an end to the uncertainty as to whether drivers around the state can use hand-held wireless telephones while driving.\u00a0Under the bill, which was signed into law by Gov.
