{"id":231,"date":"2014-03-31T10:00:07","date_gmt":"2014-03-31T16:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chicagobirthinjurylawyersblog.com\/?p=231"},"modified":"2016-09-05T11:34:38","modified_gmt":"2016-09-05T16:34:38","slug":"3-million-settlement-failure-implement-adequate-oxygenation-newborn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.robertkreisman.com\/birth-injury-lawyer\/3-million-settlement-failure-implement-adequate-oxygenation-newborn\/","title":{"rendered":"$3 Million Settlement in Failure to Implement Adequate Oxygenation to Newborn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A settlement was reached in a case where a newborn, known as \u201cDoe,\u201d was born with a congenital condition in which part of her internal organs developed outside of her body.Right after her birth, Doe underwent a series of surgeries to place those organs inside her body.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>After one of the surgeries, Doe began having difficulty breathing.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Her treating doctors placed her on a mechanical ventilator and cardiac machine and also gave her medications, all of which were not successful in returning her oxygen saturations to normal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Doe then suffered cardiopulmonary arrest, which resulted in permanent brain damage.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Doe died two years later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Doe\u2019s family sued the hospital and Doe\u2019s treating physicians claiming that the defendants chose not to provide <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Extracorporeal_membrane_oxygenation\">extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) <\/a>and also failed to timely transfer the child to another hospital.
