During the subsequent delivery, which was induced, fetal heart tracings were concerning for several hours. After the baby\u2019s birth, Bayless\u2019 son, who required fifteen minutes of resuscitation, was airlifted to another hospital. The baby was diagnosed as having catastrophic brain damage and died nine months later after months of intervention. <\/p>\n<p>Bayless and her husband sued treating obstetrician Dr. Derin Rominger and his medical practice, alleging wrongful death. The Bayless family claimed that the defendants chose not to timely deliver their baby according to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acog.org\"> American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists <\/a>(ACOG) guidelines for gestation hypertension, which requires delivery at 37 or 38 weeks gestation. The Bayless family also alleged that the defendants failed to expedite delivery considering the concerning fetal heart tracing, which clearly showed signs of hypoxia. <\/p>\n<p>The jury in Macon County, Ill., signed a verdict for $17.1 million.
